The Always Be Closing scene in Glengarry Glen Ross is great. It’s one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever.
But that doesn’t have to be the approach when you are working a booth at a conference.
Get a feel for the person you are chatting up, and figure out if they might be more than a potential partner for you. They could also be a friend.
After all, business thrives on relationships, and it makes things happen easier if you’re friends with people.
It’s totally OK to talk about sports, music, movies, or whatever at the booth. There are people I do business with where it’s more than a transaction. It’s a pleasure.
I tend to do more business with them.
