Over the weekend both Delta Air Lines and United Airlines extended the status for frequent fliers by a year to account for the reduced travel due to COVID-19.
I was wondering if this was going to happen because I have Premier 1K status on United and there is no way I was going to achieve it again this year with everything going on.
Typically I fly a couple of times a month between Austin and Newark and there are 3-4 non-stops a day in each direction. With the reductions in flights, there are no longer any non-stops and like United, the other airlines have greatly streamlined their flights for now.
Delta was the first to make the announcement that they extended Medallion Status, Club Memberships, and more to support SkyMiles members’ future travel.
Then last night I got an email from United that my current 2020 Premier status will be extended to January 31, 2022.
United is also making it easier to qualify for higher tiers in their MileagePlus program and extending the expiration on PlusPoints for upgrades. Also, United Club memberships are being extended by six months and electronic travel certificates now have 24 months to be used.
I am glad to see these changes and would imagine the other airlines will follow suit.
